Year-End Celebration Gathering: A Special Treat for NTOU International Students

The Office of the International Affairs (OIA) organized a special Year-End Gathering for the international students of NTOU. The year-end event took place at the Evergreen Hotel in Keelung City, Taiwan, on December 23, 2020. It was participated by international students 80 international students and 20 local students. The said event is a yearly celebration to honor and encourage the international student community of NTOU. It is also an avenue to appreciate and reward their academic achievements and hard work. As of today, NTOU has a total of 106 international students

The University President Tai-Wen Hsu graced the said event together with the other esteemed university officials. As a welcome, the President gave his warm greetings with a smile. He also shared words of comfort to those who were not able to go home to their respective countries to celebrate this holiday due to restrictions because of the pandemic. He appreciated the Taiwan government's efforts to make life normal so that everyone could enjoy celebrating this season with less inconvenience. He also encouraged the students to keep working hard on their degrees and academic requirements. The university will support new students by allocating more scholarship slots for foreign nationalities to study in NTOU. President Hsu further emphasized the importance of learning through cultural exchange, to improve the individual's social and educational capabilities that adhere to the academic international standards and policies.

Other university officials who gave their greetings were Prof. Pin-Wen Chiou, Prof. Hsiao-Chun Tseng and Prof. Feng-Min Tsai from the Office of International Affairs, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, and Prof. Tai Yuan Lin, Associate Vice-President for Office of International Affairs Prof. Kuo Chung Shang. The Vice-President for the Office of International Affairs, Prof. I-Shiung Chen, reiterated the president’s goal to expand NTOU for internationalization to cater to more students overseas. Other university officials in attendance at the event were Vice-President Ming-An Li, Dean Tai-Yuan Lin, and Chief Secretary Zheng-Ping Lin. The cake ceremony followed to commemorate the event and the presence of each one.

Other university officials who gave their greetings were Prof. Chiou, Prof. Tseng and Prof. Tasi from the Office of International Affairs, vice-president for academic affairs, and Prof. Tai Yuan Lin, associate vice-president for Office of International Affairs Prof. Kuo Chung Shang. The vice-president for the Office of International Affairs, Prof. I Shiung Chen, reiterated the president’s goal to expand NTOU for internationalization to cater to more students overseas. Invited guests from NTOU local students of the blue ocean dance group, performed a Latin dance number. To showcase the international students’ singing talents, performances were given by Alvin Modales (Philippines), Yasinta Zulaikha (Indonesia), and Giledelear Yudaeva (Russia). Also, Marseille Sergaud (Haiti) and David Anselme Kafando (Burkina Faso) showcased their respective local culture dance and invited other international students to join. Sandipan Mondal (India) also performed a local song from his country. To add more excitement to the activity, exchange gifts were also joined by many. Lastly, everyone was invited including the university officials to dance with the international students to the tune of "Last Christmas" including the university president.

As the students were dressed in formal, the event turned out to be full of fun and laughter. Everyone enjoyed the different activities with full audience participation. A special dinner treat was served for the students during the event; the program was hosted by Solange Blanco and Sunatri Sinaga. Ms Joyce Wu from OIA is the over-all in-charge.
