【OIA】 National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) held a gender equity awareness lecture on September 16, inviting counselor Yi-Ru Tseng to speak with international students, faculty, and staff. Focusing on gender awareness from a cross-cultural perspective, the seminar explored how cultural differences may shape perceptions of interpersonal interaction, personal boundaries, and gender norms.。

Through practical scenarios and interactive discussions, Tseng introduced key concepts such as respect, boundaries, non-verbal cues, and consent. She highlighted how behaviors considered friendly or natural in one culture may be perceived differently in another, encouraging participants to recognize cultural differences while remaining attentive to individual feelings and boundaries. The seminar also introduced expectations regarding consent and sexual harassment on Taiwanese campuses, helping international students better understand the local campus environment.

Faculty and staff were also encouraged to consider how cultural backgrounds may influence international students’ experiences and how culturally sensitive support can be provided when students seek assistance.

Through the seminar, NTOU aims to strengthen gender awareness and cross-cultural understanding across campus, fostering a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming environment for students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
