A ceremonial signing of MOU between the National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) and the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) was held on August 23, 2022. The renewed MOU demonstrates both universities’ commitment to strengthen research and academic cooperation for the next five years.
On August 23, 2022, the newly appointed Dean of International Affairs of NTOU, Dr. Yu-Wei Chang, joined the UPV president, Clement C. Camposano at the Umali Hall, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences on UPV Miagao Campus and signed the MOU.
The renewed MOU aims to promote international collaborations on education, research, and economic development, and further establishes a firm partnership between the NTOU and the UPV. The president of the UPV expressed his appreciations for the academic resources provided by the NTOU and expected to have more collaborative works, including providing public service activities in the coastal area in the fulfillment of social responsibilities.
Dr. Yu-Wei Chang on behalf of NTOU also stated that the NTOU encourages faculty and students in participating in joint conferences, trainings, and public service activities. The exchanges and research collaborations carry out social responsibilities and enhance international cooperation. More importantly, such activities can bring valuable learning experiences to students at both universities.
The two universities have engaged in several academic and research exchanges in the past five years. In accordance with the new MOU, the NTOU will continue to send students with relevant backgrounds to participate in the summer program of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Science. In addition to student and faculty exchanges and research collaborations, the NTOU and UPV also look forward to more activities to come, such as having joint conferences, offering a joint dual degree program for graduate students, and fostering the development of local industries in the fulfillment of social responsibilities of both universities.
