【Announcement】Winter Internship in National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(NOAA), USA

1. Organization:National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

2. Location:Boulder, Colorado State
    *You will need to transit from California if you depart from Taiwan.

3. Period:Interns have to complete a two-month internship in winter vacation.  There is no required to punch in and out during the internship, but interns have to make sure their jobs done.

4. Fields:
 (1)Marine and IT.  Interns will do projects related to AI, AR, VR or big data.  Applicants can provide the related information if you are not from the relative departments or institutes, but you have the relative backgrounds.
 (2)If you are not in the fileds mentioned before, you can provide your acadmic information to NOAA for the screening

5. Internship Contents:After the interview, the mentor will discuss with the admitted interns about the internship contents.  Before the internship ends, interns have to do a pesentation including 15 minutes oral and 5 minutes QA.  NOAA will issue the certificates to those who complete the presentation.

6. Quotas:4, NOAA will hold an online interview to screen and select the suitable ones.

7. Subsidy(TBA):

  • Undergraduate:$2,700 / month
  • Master:$3,500 / month
  • Ph.D.:$5,000 / month

8. Application:
 (1)Language Requirements:Applicants have to submit the TOEFL(iBT) with the scores 75 and above.  If applicants can't provide the proficiency as required while submitting the application, please provide the proficiency you have now and provide the TOEFL(iBT) with the scores 79 and above before the internship ends.
 (2)Deadline:12:00 (noon) August 31, 2022
 (3)Documents:
  A.NTOU Application (attachment)
  B.Transcript:If you are a master or Ph.D. students, please provide us your undergraduate, master (and Ph.D.) transcript if possible.
  C.English Proficiency (Please view the "Language Requirements".)
  D.Recommnedation Letter:No format.  It will be highly suggested to be in English.  The letter should contain the recommender's comments about applicants' independent thinking, innovation thinking, team work abilities and/or applicants' potentials and so on.
  E.Copy of Passport:Applicants can submit it after being admitted by NOAA if they have no passport or their passports expired.
 (4)Procedures:Applicants have to submit all the documents to OIA before deadline.  We'll collect all the files to NOAA.  NOAA will hold an online interview to screen and select the suitable interns.  Please note that all the applicants have to submit their documents to NOAA by OIA.  It will be rejected if the applicants submit their documents to NOAA directly.

9. Other Information:
 (1)Accommodation:NOAA will apply for the dormitory of the University of Colorado Boulder on behalf of the interns.  NOAA will pay for parts of the dormitory fees, so interns only have to pay for $600-700 per month for the dormitory including the utilities expenses.
 (2)Local Transportation:You can commute the housing and NOAA by foot, bike or bus.  However, it will be very cold there in winter.  NOAA will provide interns the bus card.
 (3)Visa:J1 (Visiting Scholarship Visa)
 (4)Insurance:NOAA will provide the interns medical insurance during their internship.  

10. Additions:
 (1)Interns will have chance to receive the return offer if they do a great job.  The return offer allows interns to have a position in NOAA within 3 years after the internship.  NOAA will provide the relative visa.
